Titanomachy

from The Age of Antiquity by Nephelinite

/

about

Long ago, before the gods ruled from Mount Olympus, their predecessors - the Titans - waged war against them. For ten long years, the Olympians and the Titans battled for dominion over the universe, a conflict spawned by the actions of the Titan Cronus - who tried to prolong his reign by swallowing each of his children whole as they were born.

Zeus, the last of Cronus' children, was saved by the actions of his mother Rhea and after forcing Cronus to vomit up his brothers and sisters, led them in battle against Cronus and his allies. The Titans were defeated and cast down into Tartarus, their reign ended.

Dividing the world amongst themselves, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades each took control of one realm - Zeus the sky and air, Poseidon the sea and all waters, and Hades the realm of the dead.
